Update on this week: February 13th thru 18th

Hawk is still feeling good and is happy and has his energy back.

On Monday Hawk and Skyla got back into Nashville very late from their trip to Disney World.

On Tuesday, Hawk and Skyla's Aunt Tuesday picked them up and took them home with her to spend the night.
Here is an excerpt from an e-mail that she sent:
We had a good day while Hawk and Skyla spent the night. Hawk and Breanna painted, watched wallace and gromitt and played on the computer. They talked about all the stuff they wanted to do this summer: Go swimming, going to the park, and going to the fair together. Hawk wants Breanna to ride the dragon roller coaster with him. Hawk was laughing so hard at Kevin. Kevin was letting the kids put all kinds of pillows and toys on top of him.
Skyla and Brooke lay in the bed together watching tv for a while and looking at books.

On Wednesday, Lindy came to Tuesday and Kevin's and picked up Skyla. She took Skyla with her, and Tuesday took Breanna, Hawk, and Brooke to Watertown School. They were presenting Lindy with the final check from the silent auction and entertainment they had for Lindy and Hawk. Ken was there and the reporter from the Lebanon Democrat. I came in late and stood at the back of the gym. The children of the school sang the special song for Hawk and then the principal made the presentation of the check to Lindy. It was over $36,000.

These pictures are of Breanna and Hawk. They were made at Watertown School on Wednesday.

Later that afternoon, Lindy, Hawk, Skyla and Ken and newschannel 5 went to Lindy's new house for the ribbon cutting.

On Friday, Jamie and Lindy took the children to Chattanooga for Hawk to see a Doctor for alternative treatments. We are to cut out all sugar for him and he is being given vitamins and minerals to build up his immune system. Also, some more treatments that are non-invasive and intented to help him fight the cancer. He will be going to Murfreesboro once a week for these treatments.

On the way back from the clinic visit, Jamie stopped at the fireworks warehouse and told Hawk that he could pick out any fireworks he wanted. Jamie said that they had only went down about half of one aisle when Jamie had to tell him that that was enough. We shot some of the fireworks on Friday night and are saving the rest for a warmer night. Hawk and Skyla loved watching the fireworks. These are some of the things Jamie wants to do--have a fireworks display for his little son and daughter and their cousins and all of the family. This brings a lot of joy to Hawk and Skyla and to us adults who get to watch their faces light up with happiness. We are planning on having all of our family over one night for a fireworks display. Won't this make a little boy happy!!!

This is a flyer that was given out for the prayer service for Hawk on December 28, 2005. I tried to scan it and copy it to this site, but it was so small, that it was hard to read it, so I've retyped it word for word.

Our family appreciates so much the elders and prayer ministry and everyone who attended the prayer service for Hawk at College Hills Church of Christ

Prayer Service for Hawk Smith
Wednesday, December 28, 2005

May God be glorified. We gather in stunned pain and tenacious hope to plead in prayer for a young child's recovery, for his family's strength, for his medical help's wisdom. We beg a nurturing spirit and commitment to prayer in all of us who love and care for this child and his family that we may stand in unwavering support for them, ministering to them as the Lord would have us, praying in their stead when exhaustion overcomes them.

II Corinthians 1:3-5 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

Psalm 139:8-10 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

We pray in the faith that our Lord has never failed us in His love. In our frailty we long for assurance that Hawk rests in the palm of God's precious hand.

Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

THE WORDS OF JESUS "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me." John 14:1

He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. " And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me...." Matthew 18:2-5

I wanted to add this e-mail from a friend of the family because it is so sweet. Thank you Danita for the kind words about our family.

Hi Tuesday,
I left you a message on your answering machine but I know you guys are probably extremely busy. I would like to contribute to the yard sale, I don’t have a whole lot but I’d like to give what I can. I also would like to shop the yard sale to contribute there as well, I just hope I haven’t waited too late. If you need me to bring the clothes Friday evening instead of Saturday morning I will happy to do so. I do apologize for this being a bit last minute. I was able to read some of Gwen’s blog today and WOW it really hit my heart! In knowing your family for all these years I’ve learned that you guys are full of love and work very well together in a strong support system I’m sure this is only strengthening those bonds. I trust the Lord will see you all through this and Hawk is so fortunate to be born to a family like yours. All of you are in my family’s prayers. God Bless.
Danita

These pictures were made last weekend at our house. My sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Warren Parker, were visiting from South Carolina. Hawk and Wanda found all of these candles ( I save numbered candles from year to year) and Hawk decided that he wanted a cake with all of the candles on it. So Warren went to Wal-Mart and bought a cake for Hawk and we put the candles on it and he blew all of them out.

Hawk had gotten off of the steroids, but had to go back on them last week because he was dragging his left foot again. He is taking 1 tablet a day now. He has taken his last radiation treatment. There will not be anymore radiation. He will have an MRI in about 5 weeks to see if the tumor has shrunken.

Last Friday night there was a great benefit in Hawk's honor at Watertown Hight School. When we first got there, he was not feeling too well because of the steroids, but he soon started feeling a lot better and started playing and having a good time. He really cheered up when Jamie got there. I am so proud of our family. They always support each other. Chris and Wanda and Kevin and Breanna (Tuesday was in Carthage working very hard on a Yard sale to benefit Jamie and Hawk),and Brooke was with a sitter. Mike and I, and Hawk's great-grandmother, Cathy Waddle and her husband, Derald Waddle and our good friends, Charlie and Frances Parson were there for Hawk's special night. Jamie saw a lot of his old friends from high school. A lot of them came over and said Hi to him and Hawk and offered their support. A friend of the family came all the way from Lawrence County with his family to be their because they are all praying for Hawk. There was a lot of good entertainment. Jason Meadows was there. The school children sang a special song just for Hawk.
Hawk and Breanna and Skyla were playing and having a great time with all of the rest of the children. He and Breanna are so close. They love each other so much.

Hawk started getting tired and wanted to leave and wanted to go home with us. On the way home he decided that he wanted a cheese biscuit. Mike said he didn't know where we could get a cheese biscuit at that time of the night. I said well we could stop at Four Winds Truck Stop. They would have cheese because they make cheeseburgers and they would have biscuits because they make breakfast. So we stopped there and they made Hawk a cheese biscuit.

This week Hawk has gone to Walt Disney World with Make A Wish Foundation. I'm sure he and Skyla are having a great time.

May God Bless each and everyone of you. Thanks to each and everyone who is praying for Hawk.

We found out last Wednesday that Mike has prostate cancer. He had test done on Monday and Tuesday to see if it had spread. Please pray that it has not. We will go back to the doctor this Friday the 10th to get the results of those tests. Thanks to everyone for all of the calls and prayers for him and Hawk.
